By following this tour you can learn more about the increasing number of guidebooks and the changing nature and role of the professional guide as the tourists came in increasing numbers. Although guidebooks declined in quality as they increased in numbers, some of the early guidebooks were as popular and longlasting (and as opinionated!) as Wainwright is today.
