John Dobson’s Kite Site

George Webster's writings

Over the years, George has written a number of articles on the range and history of kites and kiting. Many of these first appeared in The Kiteflier.

Together we have revised and rewritten these during the period 2009-2011 and I have made them available here. The collection is called Kites On A Line.

The collection is presented in its final form for the time being. Some of the photos need Photoshopping since George took them a long time ago on what was then the latest version of the Polaroid camera; but that is an activity best left until the long dark nights of winter.

The original concept was a book, but it is more convenient to think of it as a series of separate chapters which are largely self-contained (though occasionally they may make reference to other chapters).
After a short introduction there are 15 chapters on kites and kiteflying followed by 4 separate articles on other kite-related topics.

All the files are in pdf format. Because of the size of some of them, we strongly recommend that you download them (right-click on the link) and print them instead of viewing them onscreen.

If you want to leave a comment about any of the writings, please leave a comment on my blog. George has not yet got into the electronic age, but I will pass on all the comments I receive.

All articles are copyright © George Webster and may not be reproduced without permission.
